Pattern of cervical lymph node metastases in squamous cell carcinoma of the upper oral cavity - How to manage the neck

Christian Doll et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify risk factors affecting clinical decision making for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) of the upper oral cavity. The study found that lymph vessel infiltration and grade of differentiation were associated with an increased probability of cervical lymph node metastasis (CLNM). Elective neck dissection should be performed for OSCC of the upper oral cavity, and sentinel-lymph node biopsy can be an alternative for early-stage and clinically node-negative patients, especially in patients with a tumor depth of invasion (DOI) <= 4.5 mm.

Fi-Index: A New Method to Evaluate Authors Hirsch-Index Reliability

Luca Fiorillo

Summary: Bibliometric is a field of study applied to various scientific disciplines, which has been made more accessible and reliable in recent years due to the digitalization of the scientific and academic world. Unfortunately, there is a race for bibliometric values in the scientific field, which can be influenced by authors themselves. In this study, the h-index and its calculation are described, and a formula is proposed to evaluate the influence of self-citations on this value. The resulting Fi-index provides objective information on the extent to which an author's h-index has been influenced by their self-citations, and could be used as a bibliometric parameter in the future to evaluate the reliability of both the value and the author.

The Use of Fi-Index Tool to Assess Per-manuscript Self-citations

Luca Fiorillo et al.

Summary: Bibliometric parameters are increasingly used in the evaluation of scientific research and authors. The Fi-index is a new index that measures the influence of self-citations on an author's h-index. The purpose of this study is to apply the Fi-index to individual papers to determine their impact on an author's h-index or citations.

Prognostic factors of head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review

Joshua Lubov et al.

Summary: Head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is mainly caused by solar ultraviolet radiation and has a good prognosis in most cases, but 5% of patients develop nodal metastasis. According to the study, immunosuppression and age are significant pre-operative/clinical prognostic factors, while number of involved lymph nodes, margins involved with carcinoma, and tumor depth are important post-operative/pathological prognostic factors.
