Segmental Absence of Intestinal Musculature in a Child with Type IV Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Nicole Zeky et al.

Summary: Patients with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome have a defect in type III collagen formation, putting them at risk of vascular rupture and other complications. Segmental absence of intestinal musculature, a rare histopathologic finding, may occur in these patients and poses unique challenges. This case report describes a patient with both rare conditions, a combination not previously documented in the literature.

Total colectomy in Vascular Ehlers Danlos syndrome a case report and literature review

Summary: Ehlers Danlos syndromes (EDS) are genetic disorders with skin hyperelasticity, joint hyperlaxity, and tissue weakness. Vascular EDS is a rare form characterized by inconsistent acrogenic morphotype and can lead to severe digestive and vascular complications. It is caused by abnormalities in the synthesis of type III collagen, which is crucial for the vessel wall, skin, joint capsules, uterus, and gastrointestinal tract. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent life-threatening complications.
