Formation, Signaling and Occurrence of Specialized Pro-Resolving Lipid Mediators-What is the Evidence so far?

Nils Helge Schebb et al.

Summary: This paper critically evaluates the biosynthetic pathways of specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs), their receptors and signaling cascades, and the analytical methods used to quantify these mediators. It concludes that there is limited biosynthetic capacity for SPMs in human leukocytes, the identity and signaling of proposed SPM receptors need further validation, SPM levels are not related to dietary supplementation or resolution of inflammation, and the commonly reported methodology for quantification of SPMs is unreliable.

Early IFNβ secretion determines variable downstream IL-12p70 responses upon TLR4 activation

Celine Posseme et al.

Summary: We found that interferon beta is a major determinant of IL-12p70 production induced by lipopolysaccharide and is associated with circulating monocytes. Reduced IFN beta-IL-12p70 responses were observed in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection or chronic HCV infection, and these responses were resolved after viral clearance. This study provides important insights into the roles of IL-12p70 and IFN beta in healthy and infected individuals and how genetic and epigenetic variation may impact immune responses to bacterial infection.

Immune Profiling Enables Stratification of Patients With Active Tuberculosis Disease or Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infection

Darragh Duffy et al.

Summary: TruCulture method can effectively distinguish active tuberculosis from latent infection by stimulating blood samples, providing a more accurate diagnosis for TB cases. The ratio between Mtb antigen and BCG IFN can further improve the stratification of TB diagnosis.
