Highly conductive, anti-freezing, and adhesive hydrogels containing pores constructed by cation-dipole interactions

Hatam Najafi Fath Dehghan et al.

Summary: Boosting ion conductivity in anion exchange membranes (AEMs) using dipole-ion interactions is the best way to create ion channels in AEMs. In this study, antifreeze crosslinked PVA/PVP hydrogels were prepared to increase the ionic conductivity by creating multiple pores through cation-dipole interactions. The 10% Cr-PVA hydrogel showed significantly higher ionic conductivity than the PVA hydrogel at room temperature.

Hydrogen bonding assisted OH- transport under low humidity for rapid start-up in AEMFCs

Wanjie Song et al.

Summary: This study reports an AEM with a urea-based structure that exhibits excellent performance under low humidity conditions. Micro-structure analysis and molecular dynamics simulation show that hydrogen bonding between urea-based structures enhances the self-assembly ability and OH- conduction pathway of the AEM. The hydrogen bond network formed by urea-urea and urea-water groups endows the AEM with excellent water retention ability, reducing the dependence of OH- conduction on humidity. The research provides significant guidance for rapid start-up in AEM fuel cells.

New Strategy Based on Click Reaction for Preparation of Cross-Linked Poly(Benzimidazolium-Imide) as an Anion-Exchange Membrane with Improved Alkaline Stability

Koorosh Firouz Tadavani et al.

Summary: New anion-exchange membranes based on poly(benzimidazolium-imide) containing triazolium groups were prepared using click chemistry for triazolium groups and cross-linking simultaneously. Two different cross-linked membranes with a hydrophilic cross-linker (Q-CLP1) and a hydrophobic cross-linker (Q-CLP2) were tested for mechanical properties. Q-CLP1 showed higher tensile stress due to the rigidity of the aromatic cross-linker, while Q-CLP2 had more fixability and tensile strain due to the aliphatic cross-linker.
