Borosilicate glasses containing CdS/ZnS QDs: A heterostructured composite with enhanced degradation of IC dye under visible-light

S. Y. Janbandhu et al.

Summary: In this study, a glass system containing CdS and ZnS quantum dots was synthesized and heat-treated to optimize growth. The optical band gap was found to decrease with increasing size of the quantum dots. The prepared glass samples showed high photocatalytic efficiency for dye degradation, with stability observed over multiple cycles.

CdS nanoparticles decorated hexagonal Fe2O3 nanosheets with a Z-scheme photogenerated electron transfer path for improved visible-light photocatalytic hydrogen production

Feng Guo et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production is a promising application of photocatalytic technology that utilizes solar energy to alleviate the energy crisis. In this study, a zero-dimensional/two-dimensional heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized and showed enhanced photocatalytic performance for hydrogen production. The improvement can be attributed to the contact of different dimensions at the interface and the synergistic effect of electron transfer mechanism. This work provides an effective approach for modifying composite semiconductor photocatalysts to achieve highly efficient catalysis.

Probing High Oxygen Activity in YSZ Electrolyte

Adrian Robles-Fernandez et al.

Summary: The redox behavior of terbium and praseodymium doped yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) was studied to identify spectroscopic probes and suitable experimental procedures for monitoring oxygen activity in YSZ electrolytes in solid oxide cells. The study found that the majority of these rare earth ions are in the +3 oxidation state after equilibrium in different oxygen pressures. The presence of Tb4+ and Pr4+ ions at higher oxygen pressures resulted in intense optical absorption and decreased reflectance. The study also established a quantitative relationship between Tb3+ luminescence intensity and oxygen pressure at 800 degrees C.

Influence of lattice strain on Er3+ions activated magnesium zirconium phosphate phosphors: Morphological, structural, and photoluminescence properties

Tribikram Choudhury et al.

Summary: Rare earth ions doped alkaline metal zirconium phosphors have attracted attention for their photoluminescence properties in various applications. In this study, erbium doped magnesium zirconium phosphate nanophosphors were synthesized and characterized. The Er3+ doping did not significantly affect the crystallite size, but slightly reduced the lattice strain. The 0.5 mol% Er3+ doped sample showed a broad emission band and long photoluminescence lifetime, demonstrating potential for integrated photonic applications in the IR region.
