Simultaneous optimization of the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of epoxy resin composites through PES and AgNP functionalized BNs

Jiamei Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, polyether sulfone (PES) and silver nanoparticles functionalized boron nitride nanoplates (AgBNs) were used to enhance the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of epoxy resin (EP) composites. The addition of silver nanoparticles helped increase the interfacial contact of boron nitride nanoplates, improving the heat conduction paths. The results showed that the inclusion of AgBNs significantly increased the thermal conductivity of the composites, and the introduction of PES improved the mechanical properties.

Improved bond strength, reduced porosity and enhanced mechanical properties of 3D-printed polyetherimide composites by carbon nanotubes

Qing Chen et al.

Summary: Fused deposition modelling (FDM) is a fast-developing method for 3D printing polymers and composites. This study focused on using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to improve the mechanical properties of 3D printed polyetherimide (PEI) composites. The results showed that the incorporation of CNTs significantly enhanced the bond strength and reduced porosity of the composites. Additionally, combining CNTs with annealing further improved the mechanical performance and reduced warping of the printed samples.

Synergistic effect of multiscale BNs/CNT and 3D melamine foam on the thermal conductive of epoxy resin

Jiamei Luo et al.

Summary: By constructing multiscale synergistic heat conduction channels at a microscopic level and incorporating boron nitride nanoplates/carbon nanotubes into epoxy resin, the thermal conductivity of the epoxy resin can be significantly improved. This method not only enhances the thermal conductivity of the epoxy resin, but also gives it a relatively low dielectric constant, making it suitable for applications in the field of electrical insulation materials.

Adjustable core-sheath architecture of polyaniline-decorated hollow carbon nanofiber nanocomposites with negative permittivity for superb electromagnetic interference shielding

Xiaojiang Xu et al.

Summary: This work presents a novel approach to develop hollow carbon nanofibers/polyaniline (HCNFs/PANI) nanocomposites with adjustable core-sheath architecture, negative permittivity, and outstanding electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance. The effect of polyaniline sheath thickness on the electrical property and EMI performance of HCNFs/PANI nanocomposites is studied in detail. Results show that the HCNFs/PANI nanocomposites with a HCNFs loading of 50 wt% exhibit the highest electrical conductivity and the largest EMI shielding effectiveness within the X-band range. The excellent electrical conductivity, changeable dielectric resonance, and internal multiple scattering at interfaces contribute to the unique EMI shielding performance of HCNFs/PANI nanocomposites.
