Effects of an Immersive Virtual Reality Intervention on Pain and Anxiety Among Pediatric Patients Undergoing Venipuncture A Randomized Clinical Trial

Cho Lee Wong et al.

Summary: Providing procedural information and using immersive virtual reality (IVR) can reduce pain and anxiety among pediatric patients undergoing venipuncture. A randomized clinical trial found that patients in the IVR group reported significantly less pain and anxiety immediately after the intervention, and the length of the procedure was significantly shorter in the IVR group compared to the control group. These findings have important implications for the clinical application of IVR in other painful and stressful medical procedures.

The impact of preoperative anxiety on patients undergoing brain surgery: a systematic review

Vittorio Oteri et al.

Summary: Preoperative anxiety is a common reaction in up to 80% of surgical patients, with implications for perioperative outcomes. Studies on brain surgery patients show a range of 17% to 89% prevalence of preoperative anxiety, associated with various negative impacts on quality of life, cognitive performance, and overall recovery. Interventions like acupuncture, music therapy, and pharmacological support have been shown to effectively reduce anxiety levels in these patients.
