Predictive Factors for Cancer Treatment Delay in a Racially Diverse and Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Urban Population

Risha Sheni et al.

Summary: Incremental delays in time to treatment initiation have been shown to increase the risk of disease-specific mortality for various types of cancer. This study examined the associations between patient factors and treatment initiation delays.

A tool to predict disparities in the timeliness of surgical treatment for breast cancer patients in the USA

Christopher G. Verdone et al.

Summary: Delays and disparities in treatment for breast cancer have a negative impact on patient outcomes. This study examines the relationship between delays and disparities, and provides a tool to predict the risk of treatment delay based on patient socioeconomic factors. The results show that factors such as race, ethnicity, income, education, and insurance status can affect the timeliness of care. A nomogram is also created to predict the risk of preoperative delay.

Neighborhood and Individual Socioeconomic Disadvantage and Survival Among Patients With Nonmetastatic Common Cancers

En Cheng et al.

Summary: The study found that both neighborhood-level and individual-level socioeconomic status have significant impacts on the survival of patients with nonmetastatic common cancers, with neighborhood-level deprivation associated with worse survival rates. These findings suggest that ongoing investments in low-resource neighborhoods and low-income households are necessary to improve cancer outcomes and reduce health disparities.

Trends in Patient Volume by Hospital Type and the Association of These Trends With Time to Cancer Treatment Initiation

Zachary A. K. Frosch et al.

Summary: This study found that from 2007 to 2016, an increasing number of cancer patients initiated their treatment at NCI and academic centers. Although the patient volume growth at these centers outpaced that at community hospitals, it did not result in clinically significant treatment delays.
