Barriers and Enablers of Healthcare Providers to Deprescribe Cardiometabolic Medication in Older Patients: A Focus Group Study

Summary: This study aims to explore the barriers and enablers of deprescribing cardiometabolic medication as seen by healthcare providers of different disciplines. The results suggest that lack of evidence and expertise, negative beliefs and fears, poor communication and collaboration between healthcare providers, and lack of resources are barriers to deprescribing. Having a guideline and patient communication are enablers of deprescribing. A multidisciplinary approach is recommended to support the process of deprescribing and address barriers related to resources.

Consumer Attitudes Towards Deprescribing: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Primary-Care Prescribers' Perspectives on Deprescribing Opioids and Benzodiazepines in Older Adults

Summary: This study evaluated primary-care prescribers' confidence in and perceptions of deprescribing opioids and benzodiazepines (BZDs) for older adults. The findings from both quantitative and qualitative analyses indicated that prescribers had moderate confidence in their ability to deprescribe these medications, but their confidence was lower under potentially impeding circumstances. Barriers to deprescribing included lack of time, availability of mental health resources, and patients seeing multiple prescribers.
