The Footprint of the 11-Year Solar Cycle in Northeastern Pacific SSTs and Its Influence on the Central Pacific El Nino

Yong-Fu Lin et al.

Summary: The study shows that the 11-year solar cycle has a significant impact on sea surface temperature variations in the Northeastern Pacific, mainly through influencing the atmosphere and eventually affecting the surface temperature. This solar cycle contributes to the slow modulation of the central Pacific ENSO events.

Lagged Responses of the Tropical Pacific to the 11-yr Solar Cycle Forcing and Possible Mechanisms

Wenjuan Huo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the response of the tropical Pacific to the 11-yr solar cycle using historical-Nat simulations from CMIP5, observational data, and reanalysis datasets. The results show a significant 11-yr solar signal in the upper-ocean layers above the thermocline and tropospheric circulations, with warming initially appearing in the central equatorial Pacific and then shifting eastward in lagged 1-3 years.
