Spray-Deposited, Virus-Templated SnO2 Mesoporous Electron Transport Layer for High-Efficiency, Sequential-Deposited Perovskite Solar Cells

Neetesh Kumar et al.

Summary: In recent years, researchers have used spray deposition technology to fabricate tin oxide electron transport layer (ETL) for perovskite solar cells (PSC). However, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of spray-deposited SnO2 ETL is lower than that of spin-coated SnO2 ETL. This study demonstrates the combined use of spray deposition and genetically engineered M13 bacteriophages to deposit M13-SnO2 biohybrid ETL over large-area substrates, resulting in improved PCE of approximately 22.1% and enhanced stability of the PSCs.

Layer-by-Layer Processed PM6:Y6-Based Stable Ternary Polymer Solar Cells with Improved Efficiency over 18% by Incorporating an Asymmetric Thieno[3,2-b]indole-Based Acceptor

Jinglong Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a new low-bandgap asymmetric small molecule acceptor TIT-2Cl based on thieno[3,2-b]indole core was introduced into PM6:Y6-based polymer solar cells (PSCs) to suppress the over-aggregation of Y6 molecules and improve the efficiency. The addition of TIT-2Cl contributed to improved light harvesting, charge separation, transport, and extraction. By using the layer-by-layer (LBL) progressive spin-coating method, the PSCs achieved a champion efficiency of 18.18%, the highest reported for PM6:Y6-based PSCs, with superior stability and compositional insensitivity.

Design and analysis of multi-layer silicon nanoparticle solar cells

Sayyed Reza Mirnaziry et al.

Summary: This study investigates the concept of nanoparticle-based solar cells composed of a silicon nanoparticle stack as a light trapping absorber for ultrathin photovoltaics. The potential of using these nanotextured structures in enhancing light absorption is explored through detailed optical analysis on various parameters. The electrical performance of selected configurations and the impact of contact points between nanoparticles are also computed. The research shows that SiO2 nanoparticles on top of the cell structure can enhance the photocurrent.

Organic Solar Cell With Efficiency Over 20% and VOC Exceeding 2.1 V Enabled by Tandem With All-Inorganic Perovskite and Thermal Annealing-Free Process

Xiaoyu Gu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a 2-terminal monolithic perovskite/organic tandem solar cell (TSC) configuration, which incorporates wide bandgap all-inorganic perovskites as front cell absorber and organic blend as rear cell absorber, to extend the absorption range of organic solar cells (OSCs) into high-energy photon region. By optimizing the electron transporting layer and interface structure, high open-circuit voltage and charge transport efficiency are achieved. The remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) obtained in this study highlights the potential of this strategy to improve the efficiency of OSCs.

High performance tandem organic solar cells via a strongly infrared-absorbing narrow bandgap acceptor

Zhenrong Jia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a simple strategy of extending the conjugation length of acceptor Y6 to synthesize a new narrow bandgap acceptor BTPV-4F, which shows great potential in tandem organic solar cells. By using BTPV-4F in the rear cell, tandem devices achieved a high power conversion efficiency of over 16.4% with good photostability, addressing previous limitations in near-infrared absorbing materials for tandem organic solar cells.

Investigation of colorimetric biosensor array based on programable surface chemistry of M13 bacteriophage towards artificial nose for volatile organic compound detection: From basic properties of the biosensor to practical application

Jong-Min Lee et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the correlation between surface chemistry of genetically engineered bacteriophages and the properties of bacteriophage-based optoelectronic noses, demonstrating controllable reactivity through genetic engineering. Phages advantageous in distinguishing VOCs were selected through HCA, with the differences verified through optimized geometry calculated by DFT. The study confirmed the importance of tryptophan-based and histidine-based genetically engineered phage films in distinguishing VOCs used to evaluate peach freshness, and applied this to design a field-applied phage-based optoelectronic nose for measuring fruit freshness.

Large-area flexible organic solar cells

Fu Yang et al.

Summary: There are two major challenges to bridging the efficiency gap between small-area rigid organic solar cells (OSCs) and large-area flexible devices: first is preparing high-quality flexible transparent electrodes, and second is fabricating thickness-insensitive photoactive layers with low-cost materials. This review summarizes recent progress and challenges of flexible large-area OSCs and proposes strategies and opportunities to promote their development for stable and efficient performance.
