Sustainable High-Tech Brick Production with Energy-Oriented Consumption: An Integrated Possibilistic Approach Based on Criteria Interdependencies

Ehsan Solgi et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the issue of technology selection in brick production to achieve sustainable and clean production. A novel hybrid fuzzy multi-criteria group decision-making model is proposed to determine the optimal technology by calculating local and global weights. A case study and comparative analysis are conducted to demonstrate the applicability and superiority of the proposed methodology.

Climate co-benefits of air quality and clean energy policy in India

Kushal Tibrewal et al.

Summary: Climate-oriented goals in air quality and clean energy policies can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially by shifting to biomass cooking and addressing emissions from brick production and agricultural residue burning. Sustainable development goals connect policies addressing air quality and energy efficiency with complementary benefits for climate mitigation, but a fragmented approach across domains may hinder effectiveness in addressing short-lived climate forcers.

Potential pathway for recycling of the paper mill sludge compost for brick making

Gaurav Goel et al.

Summary: This study focused on developing a potential pathway for recycling paper mill sludge compost (PMSC) in brick making. Adding PMSC to bricks increases porosity, making them lighter and providing energy to the firing process. Results showed that adding up to 10% PMSC to alluvial and laterite soil produces bricks with mechanical properties compliant with Indian and ASTM standards.

Embodied energy analysis to understand environmental impact of brick industry in West Godavari region

K. Paul Levi et al.

Summary: The Indian construction industry is one of the largest consumers of non-renewable resources globally. Sustainable building designs aim to balance environmental, economic, and social impacts by utilizing natural resources efficiently. Embodied energy analysis is used as an assessment tool for construction design, with a process-based analysis being more suitable for the Indian construction industry. Energy consumption of different building materials, such as bricks and blocks, is compared to determine sustainable alternatives.
