Efficient Analysis of Energy-Based Surface Contributions for an Entire Acoustic Cavity

Caglar Gurbuz et al.

Summary: The study aims to develop an efficient contribution analysis technique to evaluate the acoustic performance of an entire cavity. By solving the three-dimensional Helmholtz equation and performing eigendecomposition, acoustic quantities can be evaluated without the need for volume integration. The method employs sound energy as the objective function and avoids acoustic short circuits, enabling analysis of entire cavities.

Analysis of the sound field above finite absorbers in the wave-number domain

Eric Brandao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the edge diffraction effect of sound waves on finite porous absorbers mounted in an infinite hard baffle. The analysis includes a theoretical analysis and numerical simulations to study the sound field above the absorbers and measurements using pressure sensors. A regularized solution is used to separate the incident and reflected wave components in the wave-number domain and reconstruct the surface impedance and absorption coefficient of the sample. The use of propagating and evanescent waves allows for an estimation of the absorption coefficient that is slightly dependent on the sample size, which is desirable for in situ measurement methods.

Boundary admittance estimation for wave-based acoustic simulations using Bayesian inference

Ziqi Chen et al.

Summary: Acoustic surface admittance/impedance plays a vital role in wave-based acoustic simulations. This study utilizes two levels of Bayesian inference to estimate the order and parameter values of the multipole admittance model. Through experimental measurements, the frequency-dependent acoustic admittance is obtained. By incorporating the maximum entropy strategy, the unified Bayesian framework is applied to the multipole approximation. Analysis results demonstrate that the multipole model-based Bayesian inference is well-suited for estimating arbitrary frequency-dependent boundary conditions within a wave-based simulation framework.

Estimation of locally reacting surface impedance at modal frequencies using an eigenvalue approximation technique

Albert G. Prinn et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method for estimating the frequency-dependent impedance of sound-absorbing materials using eigenvalue analysis. By combining an eigenvalue approximation method with an optimization routine, surface impedance estimates of installed samples at modal frequencies can be obtained. Finite element simulations demonstrate that the proposed method can provide reasonable estimates of surface impedance for samples placed on boundary surfaces.

Spatial reconstruction of the sound field in a room in the modal frequency range using Bayesian inference

Jonas M. Schmid et al.

Summary: This paper presents a probabilistic approach for sound field reconstruction in small and medium-sized rooms based on Bayesian inference. The proposed method decomposes the sound field using a plane wave expansion model and infers the posterior distribution for each plane wave to provide accurate reconstruction. The most significant advantage of the Bayesian method compared to deterministic reconstruction approaches is the ability to provide a probability distribution of the sound pressure at each reconstruction point, allowing for quantifying the uncertainty of the recovered sound field.

Summary: This paper proposes a comprehensive framework for experimental validation and uncertainty quantification in room acoustic simulations. The study finds that the input data uncertainty and the model form uncertainty are too high for the model to accurately predict several room acoustic parameters within just noticeable thresholds.

A Modified Helmholtz Equation Least Squares Method for Reconstructing Vibroacoustic Quantities on an Arbitrarily Shaped Vibrating Structure

Lingguang Chen et al.

Summary: The modified HELS method reconstructs vibroacoustic quantities on arbitrarily shaped vibrating structures using partial normal surface velocities and partial acoustic pressures as input data. It provides more accurate reconstruction of normal surface velocity and acoustic pressure distribution, without the need to measure normal surface velocities over the entire surface, making it applicable in practical scenarios. Regularization is necessary in the reconstruction process, and an optimal reconstruction scheme is developed through numerical simulations for cost-effective practical applications.
