Impact assessment of country risk on logistics performance using a Bayesian Belief Network model

Abroon Qazi et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between country risk drivers and logistics performance using a Bayesian Belief Network model. The results show a moderate to strong correlation among individual risks and between individual risks and the LPI score. Financial risk significantly varies relative to the extreme states of the LPI score, while corruption risk and political risk are the most critical factors influencing the LPI score.

Globalization, government regulation, and country risk: International evidence

Chien-Chiang Lee et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the risk-sharing and risk-taking effects of multidimensional globalization and government regulation on multifaceted country risk. The main empirical results show that a higher level of globalization and less restricted government regulation of the financial sector significantly decrease country risks. In addition, factors such as bank performance, bank concentration, and economic development also play a significant role in influencing country risk.

Type-2 intuitionistic fuzzy TODIM for intelligent decision-making under uncertainty and hesitancy

Amit K. Shukla et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an intelligent decision-making method that handles uncertainty in multiple dimensions and decision-maker hesitancy. It proposes a novel trapezoidal type-2 intuitionistic fuzzy set to handle uncertainty in multiple dimensions and presents the generation procedure, operations, comparison, and distance computation for such set. Additionally, it discusses the computation of decision-maker weights and criterion weights and applies this method to a renewable energy resource selection problem in multi-criteria decision-making.

Political environment and bank performance: Does bank size matter?

Marc Kouzez

Summary: This study examines the relationship between the political environment and bank performance, and explores whether this relationship depends on bank size. Using a sample of over 1600 banks in 58 countries and multidimensional measures from the Economist Intelligence Unit, we find that political uncertainty significantly reduces bank performance. Further analysis reveals that bank size plays a role in the relationship between political risk and bank performance, with large banks showing greater resilience. Our findings emphasize the importance of bank size as a determinant of bank performance in countries with high political risk, particularly for investment decision makers. The results are robust to various measurement alternatives and estimation techniques to address endogeneity.

Integrating Dynamic Bayesian Networks and Analytic Hierarchy Process for Time-Dependent Multi-Criteria Decision-Making

Chin-Yi Chen et al.

Summary: This paper presents an innovative method that integrates dynamic Bayesian networks (DBNs) with the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to model dynamic interdependencies between criteria in multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. The proposed method extends the AHP to accommodate time-dependent issues and reduces to the conventional AHP when ignoring specific information, making it a more general AHP model.

Key Factors for a Successful OBM Transformation with DEMATEL-ANP

Tien Son Nguyen et al.

Summary: Production costs and global competition have driven manufacturers to upgrade to the OBM, but research on the key factors influencing this important transition is lacking. This study uses decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory with an analytic network process to identify six key factors and their cause-and-effect relationships. Organizational innovation plays a crucial role in the success or failure of the OBM transition, along with material and component stability. These findings provide valuable insights for researchers, policy makers, and practitioners in upgrading manufacturers in global value chains.

Integrating Fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS Methods to Evaluate Operation Efficiency of Daycare Centers

Chia-Nan Wang et al.

Summary: As the need for long-term care among older people increases, it is essential to evaluate daycare centers, which provide localized long-term care services, for their growth and direction. However, current evaluation indexes fail to emphasize the significance of each index item or the actual effectiveness of an organization's operations and management. To address this issue, this research developed an evaluation model for the operation and administration of daycare centers using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) techniques. The findings highlight the importance of organizational operation management and provide a novel evaluation methodology for nursing management efficacy.

Calculating the country risk embedded in treaty-shopping networks

Sung Jae Park et al.

Summary: This paper constructed a tax treaty network to measure the country risk embedded in treaty-shopping networks. The results showed that treaty shopping can significantly reduce tax burdens for multinational enterprises (MNEs) by detouring around risk countries. The study also found that riskier countries tended to apply higher tax rates, but the dividend income tax rate was lower in those countries to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

A bigger bang for the buck: The impact of risk reduction on renewable energy support payments in Europe

Mak Dukan et al.

Summary: Decarbonizing Europe by 2050 requires significant capital investments in renewable energy. This study investigates the potential for reducing support payments to renewable energy projects by de-risking financing conditions through measures including revenue stabilization and low-risk auction designs. The results show that de-risking debt is more effective than de-risking equity, and support payments can be significantly reduced, especially in higher-risk countries.

A systematic review of the interactions of fuzzy set theory and option pricing

Jorge de Andres-Sanchez

Summary: This paper systematically analyzes the contributions of fuzzy set theory (FST) on option pricing by conducting a bibliographical analysis of journal articles and book chapters. Four main approaches to fuzzy option pricing (FOP) are identified, including fuzzifying option pricing formulas, distorting neutral to risk probabilities, evaluating real options, and embedding fuzzy controllers or fuzzy neural networks. The research reveals that FOP has become a well-established topic in fuzzy mathematics, with principal outlets in journals devoted to fuzzy mathematics and soft computing. The findings provide a comprehensive perspective on the research streams in FOP and suggest future research directions.

The impact of country risks on cobalt trade patterns from the perspective of the industrial chain

Yingli Li et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the current situation and influencing factors of cobalt trade. In the entire industry chain, the scale of the upstream trade network is shrinking, while the middle and downstream trade networks are relatively stable. China has the greatest influence in the upstream and midstream trade networks, and continues to lead in the downstream trade network. In addition, political risk has a positive impact on midstream and downstream trade, while economic risk has a negative impact.

Summary: This article examines the impact of the Catalan secessionist crisis on the equity market in Spain. The study analyzes the differences between Catalan companies and the rest of the country, focusing on the determinants of variability in returns after the illegal independence referendum. The research finds that larger and more internationalized firms were less exposed to the crisis, while those with higher growth opportunities and financial constraints were more affected. Additionally, the flight of companies from the region helped to mitigate the adverse effects.
