Classification and unified phenomenological modeling of complex uniaxial rate-independent hysteretic responses

Nicola Vaiana et al.

Summary: The study aims to propose a unified approach to modeling rate-independent hysteretic behavior. A detailed classification of complex hysteresis loops is performed, and a novel hysteretic model with closed form expressions for evaluating the output variable is formulated. The model offers computational efficiency and ease of implementation, and allows for an uncoupled modeling of the generic loading and unloading phases.

Parameter identification of the Bouc-Wen model for the magnetorheological damper using fireworks algorithm

Xiaoliang Chen et al.

Summary: A new parameter identification method using the fireworks algorithm (FWA) is proposed to address the issues of low identification accuracy and complex identification methods in the Bouc-Wen model of the magnetorheological (MR) damper. The FWA is applied to identify the seven parameters of the Bouc-Wen model based on experimental results and simulation data. The current-controlled Bouc-Wen model (I-Bouc-Wen model) is then constructed and compared with experimental results under different sinusoidal excitation frequencies. Compared to other algorithms, the FWA offers faster convergence, shorter calculation time, and higher stability in solving the parameter identification problem of the highly nonlinear hysteretic model.

Experimental study on the cyclic behaviour of shear links made of BLY160 steel

Liangdong Zhuang et al.

Summary: The cyclic behavior of shear links made of low-yield-point (LYP) steel BLY160 is extensively investigated. The study finds that the excellent mechanical properties of BLY160 steel enable the shear link to yield at a lower strength and reach a large inelastic rotation capacity. Introducing link flange and reducing the link length ratio can effectively improve the seismic performance of the shear link.

A Solution Algorithm for a Modified Bouc-Wen Model Capable of Simulating Cyclic Softening and Pinching Phenomena

Raffaele Capuano et al.

Summary: The paper presents an extension of a solution algorithm for evaluating the output variable of a modified Bouc-Wen model, which can simulate cyclic softening and pinching. The proposed algorithm combines the Backward Euler Method with the Newton-Raphson iterative procedure, and its accuracy and computational efficiency are demonstrated through numerical simulations compared to the widely used MATLAB ode45 solver.

Seismic behavior of hybrid coupled wall system with replaceable endplate-steel coupling beam

Huifeng Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seismic behavior of hybrid coupled wall with replaceable coupling beam and the reasonable reinforcement ratio in connections. Increasing the reinforcement ratio in connections significantly enhanced the seismic behavior of the structures, ensuring it to satisfy the design concept of replaceable structure. The replaced structure showed similar seismic behavior to the original one, with relevant design methods and recommendations proposed for future applications.
