Property Variation of Extruded Mg-Gd Alloys by Mn Addition and Processing

Bjoern Wiese et al.

Summary: This paper discusses how the mechanical properties, microstructure, and degradation rate of extruded Mn-containing Mg-Gd alloys can be modified. The study shows that adding Mn can lead to improved properties and lower degradation rate in a biological medium compared to previous studies on binary Mg-Gd alloys.

Effect of Gd on Dynamic Recrystallization Behavior of Magnesium During Hot Compression

Mohammad Hossein Barezban et al.

Summary: The study focused on the dynamic recrystallization behavior of two binary Mg-Gd alloys and pure Mg, revealing the significant impact of Gd content on the refinement of DRX grain size and kinetics. It was found that the Mg-1.5Gd alloy exhibited faster DRX kinetics compared to the Mg-0.5Gd alloy and pure Mg, indicating a higher driving pressure for DRX in the Mg-1.5Gd alloy.

Alloying effect of silver in magnesium on the development of microstructure and mechanical properties by indirect extrusion

Bjoern Wiese et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Ag in solid solution on the microstructure, texture, and deformation behavior of indirectly extruded Mg alloys. Ag as a solid solution strengthener was found to enhance deformation related heating and result in coarser grained microstructures, with no substantial effect on texture development. Mechanical properties, especially in tension, increased with increasing Ag content, showing changes in slip modes and lattice structure parameters. Compression tests showed a smaller impact on compressive yield stress but higher twinning-related strain hardening rate. Solid solution strength functions for Fleischer and Labusch were determined, confirming the anisotropic behavior of extruded Mg alloys.

Assessing the microstructure and in vitro degradation behavior of Mg-xGd screw implants using μCT

Diana Krueger et al.

Summary: Biodegradable implants play an important role in orthopedic implants, requiring a comprehensive understanding of the influence of machining on microstructure and corrosion performance. The study found that magnesium gadolinium alloys exhibit different degradation performance in vivo, with Mg-10Gd being more suitable as an implant material compared to Mg-5Gd.

Estimation of wear performance of AZ91 alloy under dry sliding conditions using machine learning methods

Fatih Aydin et al.

Summary: The study found that wear volume loss of AZ91 alloy increased with the increase of load, and the wear behavior varied under different loads. Artificial neural networks and other methods can accurately predict the wear performance of this alloy.
