Identifying the critical windows and joint effects of temperature and PM2.5 exposure on small for gestational age

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between extreme ambient temperature, air pollution exposure, and small for gestational age (SGA) in a national cohort in China. The results suggested that the second trimester of pregnancy is particularly vulnerable to heat and PM2.5 exposure. It is recommended to provide pregnant women with corresponding preventive measures during routine prenatal visits.

Extreme heat and its association with social disparities in the risk of spontaneous preterm birth

Lara Cushing et al.

Summary: This study found that exposure to extreme heat is associated with a higher risk of preterm birth, with stronger associations in early pregnancy and in communities with racial and economic disadvantages, indicating that climate change may exacerbate existing social inequalities in preterm birth rates.

Summary: This scoping review explored digital health interventions used to support pregnant women at high risk for pre-eclampsia/eclampsia in low-income and middle-income countries. The review identified key functions of interventions including data collection, prediction of adverse maternal outcomes, and clinical decision support. More prospective experimental and longitudinal studies are needed before recommending the use of digital health interventions for pre-eclampsia/eclampsia.

Effect of Elevated Ambient Temperature on Maternal, Foetal, and Neonatal Outcomes: A Scoping Review

Yohani Dalugoda et al.

Summary: This scoping review provides an overview of the literature on the association between elevated ambient temperature exposure during pregnancy and adverse maternal, foetal, and neonatal outcomes. The review identifies research gaps and summarises the current evidence, highlighting an increased risk of pre-term birth, low birth weight, stillbirth, and gestational diabetes mellitus with elevated temperature exposures. There is a need for further research on less-reported outcomes such as congenital anomalies and neonatal mortality.
