Physical activity and COVID-19. The basis for an efficient intervention in times of COVID-19 pandemic

Vicente Javier Clemente-Suarez et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted physical activity, exercise habits, dietary patterns, and mental health of individuals. These factors play a role in exacerbating COVID-19 symptoms, increasing the risk of death from SARS-CoV-2, and affecting vaccine effectiveness. Physical activity interventions have been shown to be valuable in preventing and treating COVID-19 by improving body composition, cardiovascular health, metabolic health, mental health, and enhancing antibody responses to vaccines.

Predictors and biomarkers of food allergy and sensitization in early childhood

Erin C. Davis et al.

Summary: This article reviews the existing literature on early risk factors and biomarkers of food allergy and food sensitization, and highlights the need for further research to understand the pathogenesis of food allergy in infancy and toddlerhood. It discusses the complex network of early life risk factors and their interactions with genetic components and environmental exposures. The article also emphasizes the importance of the first 1000 days of life as a critical period for the development of food allergy, and calls for more observational studies and clinical trials to identify novel biomarkers and risk factors.

The links between allergen exposure and sensitization in children and adolescents: an overview for the clinician

Maria Moustaki et al.

Summary: The relationship between allergen exposure and sensitization is complex and depends on allergen type, genetic factors, and environmental factors. For food sensitization, introducing peanuts and eggs between 4 and 6 months of age may reduce the risk of sensitization and clinically overt allergy. The relationship between aeroallergen exposure and sensitization is variable, especially if exposure occurs early in life. Early exposure to dog allergens does not seem to be associated with specific sensitization, while the results regarding cats are inconsistent. Various factors may mediate the relationship between early allergen exposure and the development of sensitization or clinical allergy.
