Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on contact tracing of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the control of tuberculosis (TB), resulting in a decrease in the detection of TB and latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). An increase in LTBI cases was observed during the pandemic. Efforts should be made to improve the detection of TB and LTBI among contacts of TB cases.

Evaluating the Quality of Tuberculosis Contact Investigation in Cali, Colombia: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Summary: This study evaluated the process and quality of TB contact investigation in Cali, Colombia in 2017. It found that completion of household visits was significantly lower among men and patients living in a specific zone. Only 47% of referred contacts completed a clinic visit, with a low initiation rate of preventive therapy noted among children and persons living with HIV. Routine monitoring of process indicators is recommended to improve quality and increase yield in contact tracing.
