SSR marker based analysis for identification and of genetic diversity of non-heading Chinese cabbage varieties

Jiwei Yin et al.

Summary: In this study, 23 core SSR markers were selected from 287 screened SSR markers for the identification and distinction of non-heading Chinese cabbage varieties. These markers showed high polymorphic information content and could distinguish 99.994% of the varieties tested. The combination of SSR markers and morphological characteristics further improved the efficiency of variety identification.

Comparative analysis of antioxidant activities between dried and fresh walnut kernels by metabolomic approaches

Ping Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the antioxidant activities of fresh walnut kernels and dry walnut kernels were evaluated, and it was found that dry walnut kernels exhibit higher antioxidant activity. Phenolic metabolites and polyunsaturated fatty acids were identified as significant contributors to the antioxidant activity of walnut kernels.

Genetic Identification of Hybrid Walnuts (Juglans x intermedia Carr.) in Hungary, the Hidden Potential for Future Breeding

Klara Cseke et al.

Summary: The question of hybrid walnut is still debated in Central Europe. While there is an intensive cross-breeding activity in Western Europe resulting in commercially available hybrid clones, the existence of these hybrids is not widely accepted in the Central European region. A preliminary study in Hungary used DNA fingerprinting to identify and test the hybrid state of selected trees. The genetic analysis showed distinct genotypes for the hybrid group, highlighting the potential for walnut breeding in Central Europe.

Genetic diversity of loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) revealed using RAD-Seq SNP markers

Yukio Nagano et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the genetic diversity of loquat and found that many of the internationally collected loquat genetic resources have unknown origins and differ from the genetic background of Japanese and Chinese cultivars. It also discovered that there are loquat varieties with different genetic backgrounds that may have been introduced to Mediterranean countries and North America.

Genetic Diversity and Structure of Persian Walnut (Juglans regia L.) in Pakistan: Implications for Conservation

Ephie A. Magige et al.

Summary: By using nuclear microsatellites, we assessed the genetic diversity and population structure of walnut populations in Pakistan. The results showed low genetic diversity among the populations, with only one population being genetically distinct from the rest. There was no correlation between geographic and genetic distance, but three genetic barriers were identified. This study provides important information for breeding improvement and conservation of walnuts in Pakistan.

Genetic analysis of walnut cultivars from southwest China: Implications for germplasm improvement

Moses C. Wambulwa et al.

Summary: This study conducted identification and analysis of the genetic structure and cultivars of walnuts in China. The research found low genetic diversity and high clonality in cultivated varieties, but the two species of walnuts can still be distinguished, with some evidence of introgression. The study also identified a distinct genetic group of cultivated walnuts, mainly composed of the popular 'Yangbidapao' landrace.
