Towards the estimation of concrete intrinsic permeability

Johann Eduard Van der Merwe DR

Summary: This paper presents a practical method for estimating the intrinsic permeability of concrete. It develops a correlation model between effective and intrinsic permeability and investigates a means of estimating intrinsic permeability for planned concrete elements. The results show a multiplicative effect of compressive strength and coarse aggregate content, and suggest that simple linear regression models can be used for estimation.

Diagnostic Reliability in the Assessment of Degradation in Precast Concrete Elements

Antonio Bossio et al.

Summary: This study conducted an experimental campaign on prefabricated concrete elements exposed to atmospheric agents for around 20 years, revealing very limited degradation and the ability to meet design service life for over 75 years. The results provide insights into a hierarchy of diagnostic reliability in the evaluation of RC degradation, with concrete core sampling serving as the golden standard.
