Solidification/stabilization of lead-contaminated soils by phosphogypsum slag-based cementitious materials

Zhisheng Ren et al.

Summary: The present study designed a phosphogypsum slag-based cementitious material (PS) and investigated its potential use for solidifying/stabilizing lead-contaminated soils. The physicochemical properties, performance, and mechanisms of lead stabilization in soil were studied using various methods. The results showed that the PS solidified body had acceptable compressive strength for backfill treatments or roadbed materials. The leaching concentrations of lead were within the safety limit specified in Chinese standard, indicating the potential for safe disposal and reuse of PS stabilized soil.

Improve toxicity leaching, physicochemical properties of incineration fly ash and performance as admixture by water washing

Xiaodong Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of water washing on the physico-chemical properties of incineration fly ash, its toxic leaching characteristics, and its performance as a cement admixture. The results showed that water washing could remove more than 90% of chlorine and some soluble substances, but heavy metals and dioxins could accumulate in the process. Washed ash could improve the pore structure and mechanical properties of cement, and there was no risk of heavy metal leaching. However, water washing was unable to remove dioxins, so it is necessary to dispose of dioxins and chlorides in order to reuse the water-washed incineration fly ash.

Quantitative evaluation of the characteristics of air voids and their relationship with the permeability and salt freeze-thaw resistance of hybrid steel-polypropylene fiber-reinforced concrete composites

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: Hybrid fiber affects the structure and performance of concrete by altering the characteristics of air voids. The relationship between air void structure and concrete permeability and salt freeze-thaw resistance is quantitatively analyzed. The hybrid ST-PP fiber can enhance the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete after salt F-T cycles, but has a negative effect on concrete permeability. Total air-void content, number of air voids, and tortuosity are key factors influencing the permeability and F-T resistance of concrete.

Spalling mechanism of carbon nanotube concrete at elevated temperature

Hao Lu et al.

Summary: The spalling response of Carbon Nanotube Concrete (CNTC) at elevated temperatures is influenced by the water cement ratio and the content of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs). The tensile strength of CNTs and their bond strength with the concrete matrix can increase the total energy required for crack propagation, effectively reducing the formation and propagation of cracks. Additionally, the effects of crack bridging and increased porosity in the concrete matrix caused by CNTs can help prevent spalling, while filling pores may reduce spalling resistance in CNTC.

The Effect of Adjusting Sinter Raw Mix on Dioxins from Iron Ore Co-Sintering with Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Fly Ash

Hao He et al.

Summary: The inhibitory effects of calcined lime and limestone on the formation of dioxins during iron ore co-sintering with fly ash were investigated. The results showed that adding 5 wt.% calcined lime and 3 wt.% limestone effectively reduced the concentration of dioxins in the flue gas. The distribution of dioxins was also affected, with an increase in low-chlorinated dioxins and a decrease in high-chlorinated dioxins, except for OCDD.

Simulation of heavy metals behaviour during Co-processing of fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration with cement raw meal in a rotary kiln

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This research examines the fixation behavior of Cd and Pb in industrial cement kilns and analyzes the effect of Cl loadings. It finds that Cd forms Cd(OH)2(g) in highly alkaline environments, while nearly 90% of Pb is volatilized as PbCl2(g). The results also show that increased Cl concentrations decrease the proportion of Pb and Cd in clinker but increase their concentrations in kiln dust.
