Seismic performance and design method of T-shaped CFST column to U-shaped steel-concrete composite beam joint with vertical stiffeners

Yu Cheng et al.

Summary: This study designed five half-scaled T-shaped multi-cell CFST columns to CUCB joint specimens with different vertical stiffener dimensions and analyzed their seismic performance through pseudo-static tests. The experimental results showed that joints with vertical stiffeners have favorable seismic performance and can be considered rigid joints according to Eurocode 3. A finite element model was developed and verified to study the effects of vertical stiffener dimensions on joint strength and stiffness. The results indicated that vertical stiffener dimensions can significantly enhance joint strength and stiffness. A design method for practical engineering applications, including calculation formulas for joint flexural capacity and detailing for joint stiffness, was proposed.

Seismic performance of joint between L-shaped CFST column and H-section beam with lower plate and extended flange plate

Xue-Chun Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new bolted joint configuration was proposed and tested. The results showed that the slippages between the extended flange plate and the beam flange improved the ductility and energy dissipation capacity of the connection. Increasing bolt number on the beam flange significantly increased the joint resistance and stiffness. Additionally, the beam vertical stiffeners limited the development of plastic deformation and reduced local buckling of the beam section. Based on the findings, simplified calculation formulas and design procedures were proposed.

Experimental research on seismic damage of cross-shaped CFST column to steel beam joints

Hechao Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the seismic damage of the cross-shaped CFST column to I-shaped steel beam joints. The experimental results reveal that the failure pattern of the joints is mainly the shear failure of the joint panel zone and fracture of the beam end. The joints have good energy dissipation capacity and the shear bearing capacity improves with the growth of depth to width ratio.

Experimental research on seismic damage of T-shaped CFST column to steel beam joints

Jianyang Xue et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seismic damage of T-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) column to steel beam joints. The failure modes were predominantly shear failure of the joint panel zone and fracture of the beam end. The specimens exhibited excellent energy dissipation capacity, and the shear bearing capacity and shear deformation capacity improved with the growth of depth to width ratio.

Mechanical behavior of T-shaped CFST column to steel beam joint

Yu Cheng et al.

Summary: The seismic performance of the T-shaped CFST column to H-shaped steel beam joint with vertical rib stiffeners was investigated in this study through experimental and numerical methods. The study found that the joint with vertical stiffeners exhibited good seismic behavior and met the requirements of Eurocode 3 for rigid joints in a braced frame. Numerical analysis showed that the width-to-thickness ratio of the steel tube and vertical rib dimensions significantly influenced the joint strength and stiffness.
