The effect of wet-grinding phosphorus slag on the hydration kinetics of Portland cement

Ying Su et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of wet-grinding on the fineness and dissolution of phosphorus slag (PS) in the early hydration of Portland cement. The incorporation of wet-ground PS into cement-based samples prolonged the setting time but reduced the overall rising tendency. The research also found that wet-grinding enhanced the hydration degree and rate in the nucleation and crystal growth stage but decreased the hydration rate in the diffusion reaction stage. The findings provide a theoretical basis for utilizing wet-grinding phosphorus slag as an eco-friendly and cost-effective admixture.

Understanding the workability of alkali-activated phosphorus slag pastes: Effects of alkali dose and silicate modulus on early-age hydration reactions

Ruiquan Jia et al.

Summary: This study reveals how the alkali dose and silicate modulus affect the workability of alkali-activated phosphorus slag pastes. Waterglass accelerates the dissolution of the phosphorus slag, resulting in faster slump loss in waterglass-activated pastes. Moderate waterglass modulus leads to slower slump loss due to the minimized difference in mutual inhibition between Ca, Mg, and Al, allowing hydrates to form slowly. However, higher and lower waterglass moduli result in faster slump loss as a result of the excessive formation of hydrates with excess elements.

Structural Characterization of Phosphorous Slag Regarding Occurrence State of Phosphorus in Dicalcium Silicate

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterizes phosphorous slag and investigates its structural and cementitious characteristics. The results show that phosphorous slag has good thermal stability, comprising mainly of CaO, SiO2, and Al2O3. However, its cementitious activity is lower than blast furnace slag. P is uniformly distributed in the slag and mainly exists in orthophosphates.

Yanhai Wang et al.

Summary: The addition of granulated phosphorus slag (GPS) in Class F fly ash (FFA) based geopolymer can reduce setting time, increase compressive strength, and create a denser and more homogeneous microstructure. Utilizing scanning electron microscopy and other tools, it was observed that GPS generated calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel, coexisting with sodium aluminate silicate hydrate (N-A-S-H) gel, resulting in improved mechanical properties of the derived geopolymer.
