Serum DUPAN-2 could be an Alternative Biological Marker for CA19-9 Nonsecretors with Pancreatic Cancer

Kojiro Omiya et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of serum DUPAN-2 in predicting the progression of pancreatic cancer in CA19-9 nonsecretors. The results demonstrate that DUPAN-2 >2000U/mL serves as an independent prognostic factor for poor prognosis in CA19-9 nonsecretors, equivalent to CA19-9 >500U/mL in CA19-9 secretors, which indicates the need for enhanced neoadjuvant treatment.

Tips and tricks for robotic pancreatoduodenectomy with superior mesenteric/portal vein resection and reconstruction

Emanuele F. Kauffmann et al.

Summary: In this study, we provided a detailed description of the technical challenges associated with robotic pancreatoduodenectomy with vein resection (RPD-VR) and shared tips and tricks for a successful operation. Our results showed that RPD-VR can be effectively performed using different vascular techniques for different types of vein resection. We strongly recommend that RPD-VR should be performed by experienced surgeons at high volume centers.

A Paradigm Shifts: Neoadjuvant Therapy for Clearly Resectable Pancreatic Cancer

Susanna W. L. de Geus et al.

Summary: Over the past decade, neoadjuvant therapy has become the standard of care for borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer. However, there is still debate regarding its value for clearly resectable disease. Meta-analyses suggest that neoadjuvant therapy can be offered as an acceptable standard of care, with recent studies showing superior survival for patients who tolerate neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX. Ongoing randomized controlled trials are expected to provide more conclusive recommendations.

ImmunoPET of Ovarian and Pancreatic Cancer with AR9.6, a Novel MUC16-Targeted Therapeutic Antibody

Sai Kiran Sharma et al.

Summary: This study validated the binding ability of a novel monoclonal antibody AR9.6 to MUC16, which can abrogate pro-oncogenic signaling and provide therapeutic response. The in vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed the binding of AR9.6 to ovarian and pancreatic cancer cells, as well as the uptake of radioactivity in lymph nodes with high MUC16 expression.

MUC16 Promotes Liver Metastasis of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma by Upregulating NRP2-Associated Cell Adhesion

Saravanakumar Marimuthu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the molecular mechanism of liver metastasis in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) mediated by MUC16. The expression of MUC16 was significantly high in PDAC tissues, PDAC organoids, and metastatic liver tissues, while no expression was observed in normal pancreatic tissues. MUC16 knockdown decreased the colony formation, migration, and endothelial/p-selectin binding in PDAC cells, while ectopic overexpression of MUC16-Cter increased colony formation and motility in pancreatic cancer cells. MUC16 promoted cell survival and colonization in the liver and enhanced liver metastasis in a mouse model. The integrated analyses suggested that MUC16 regulates NRP2 and induces metastasis in PDAC via the JAK2/STAT1 signaling pathway.

Feasibility of cold triangle robotic pancreatoduodenectomy

Emanuele F. Kauffmann et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of cold triangle robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (C-Tr-RPD) for pancreatic cancer. The surgical procedure involves cold dissection and has been successfully performed in 127 cases. Although there were postoperative complications, C-Tr-RPD improves staging of PDAC compared to traditional surgery.

Factors predicting survival in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer undergoing pancreatectomy with arterial resection

Niccolo Napoli et al.

Summary: This study identified pre-operative prognostic factors that can predict cancer-specific survival in patients undergoing pancreatectomy with arterial resection. Factors such as metabolic deterioration of diabetes, platelet count, serum levels of Ca 15.3 and Ca 125, neutrophils-to-lymphocytes ratio were found to be associated with survival outcomes. The development of a prognostic score and identification of three risk groups allows for better risk stratification in these patients.

Global, regional, and national cancer incidence and death for 29 cancer groups in 2019 and trends analysis of the global cancer burden, 1990-2019

Longfei Lin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the mortality and morbidity of 29 types of cancer in 204 countries or regions from 1990 to 2019. It found that the global cancer burden continues to increase, with males having about 1.5 times higher cancer death and incidence rates compared to females. Asia faces the heaviest cancer burden, and the mortality and morbidity of most cancers are related to the development level of countries.
