Predictive Value of MR-proADM in the Risk Stratification and in the Adequate Care Setting of COVID-19 Patients Assessed at the Triage of the Emergency Department

Marilena Minieri et al.

Summary: This study analyzed data from 321 COVID-19 patients to assess the potential role of the biomarker MR-proADM in predicting in-hospital mortality and the need for ventilation. The results showed that MR-proADM had a good predictive performance in these aspects.

Mid-regional Proadrenomedullin Biomarker Predicts Coronavirus Disease 2019 Clinical Outcomes: A US-Based Cohort Study

Natalie J. Atallah et al.

Summary: MR-proADM functions as a valuable biomarker for the early risk stratification and detection of severe disease progression of patients with COVID-19. In the prediction of death, MR-proADM performed better compared to many other commonly used biomarkers.

Prognostic value of proadrenomedullin in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia

Aleksandr A. A. Astapovskii et al.

Summary: This study found that MR-proADM has a higher prognostic value in predicting the outcome of patients with COVID-19 compared to routine inflammatory markers and the National Early Warning Score (NEWS).

The vasoactive peptide MR-pro-adrenomedullin in COVID-19 patients: an observational study

Claudia Gregoriano et al.

Summary: The study showed a close association between admission MR-proADM levels and in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients, with good predictive capability. An admission MR-proADM threshold of 0.93 nmol/L was found to best predict in-hospital mortality, playing an important role in risk stratification and ruling out fatal outcomes for COVID-19 patients.

High value of mid-regional proadrenomedullin in COVID-19: A marker of widespread endothelial damage, disease severity, and mortality

Silvia Spoto et al.

Summary: Patients with MR-proADM values >= 2 nmol/L have a higher risk of mortality, potentially indicating a multiorgan dysfunction syndrome. These patients should be carefully assessed and considered for intensive therapeutic interventions.

SARS-CoV-2: Comparative analysis of different RNA extraction methods

Cecilia Ambrosi et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficiency of RNA extraction using three different commercial kits and an in-house protocol for SARS-CoV-2 detection. The tested commercial kits can be used with modifications for rRT-PCR approaches, with some differences in RNA yields observed. The EXTRAzol reagent was found to be less efficient due to the phase separation principle.

Correlations between chest-CT and laboratory parameters in SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia A single-center study from Italy

Antonio Orlacchio et al.

Summary: The relationship between damaged lung assessed by chest CT scan and laboratory biochemical parameters is investigated as a diagnostic tool for COVID-19. Decreased lymphocyte count, increased CRP, LDH, D-dimer, and fibrinogen levels are associated with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Chest CT in the emergency department for suspected COVID-19 pneumonia

Anna Palmisano et al.

Summary: In two emergency departments in Lombardy, Italy, the diagnostic role of CT in suspected COVID-19 patients was evaluated. Most cases were classified as highly likely COVID-19 pneumonia, with a high diagnostic accuracy of 79% to 91.5% in comparison to RT-PCR testing. This suggests that CT can be a useful tool for patient triage and clinical suspicion support in emergency departments.

The vasoactive peptide MR-pro-adrenomedullin in COVID-19 patients: an observational study

Claudia Gregoriano et al.

Summary: Elevated levels of MR-proADM on admission and during hospital stay are independently associated with in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients, allowing for better risk stratification and the potential to rule out fatal outcomes.
