Effect of physical properties of synthesized protic ionic liquid on carbon dioxide absorption rate

Amita Chaudhary et al.

Summary: The concentration of carbon dioxide gas has rapidly increased over the past two decades, leading to significant changes in climate conditions. To address the environmental threats caused by volatile organic solvents used in carbon capture plants, a low-cost green absorbent with non-toxicity and high selectivity properties has been developed for carbon dioxide gas absorption. This study presents the synthesis process and confirms the structure using various spectroscopy techniques. The kinetic studies reveal that the absorption of carbon dioxide follows fast reaction kinetics with pseudo-first-order. The experimental results provide important insights into the reaction rate and activation energy of CO2 absorption in the synthesized ionic liquid, demonstrating its potential for large-scale carbon dioxide absorption.

A flexible CO2 capture system for backup power plants using Ca(OH)2/CaCO3 solid storage

Yolanda A. A. Criado et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the application of CO2 capture technologies in backup power systems. The use of Ca(OH)2 powder enables the design of low-cost carbonators for capturing diluted CO2. Storing CaCO3 and Ca(OH)2 separately allows for the decoupling of the CO2 capture step and the regeneration of Ca(OH)2 in the oxy-calciner/hydrator block. Simulations show that the thermal capacity of the oxy-calciner is only 2% of the gross power output of the NGCC gas turbine for a backup power plant with a NGCC capacity factor of 0.1. A capture efficiency of 90% can be achieved without modifying the operating conditions of the gas power plant, resulting in a global efficiency of 38% for the system with CO2 capture. Economic analysis suggests that this scheme is suitable for retrofitting natural gas-based power plants, with a cost of CO2 avoided of approximately $200 per tCO2.

A Review on Carbon Dioxide Minimization in Biogas Upgradation Technology by Chemical Absorption Processes

Nuzhat Muntaha et al.

Summary: With population growth and climate change, meeting energy demands and preserving the environment are major challenges. Biogas is a significant renewable energy source, but upgrading it by removing unwanted components, such as CO2, is crucial. This review explores various methods, such as physical adsorption and chemical absorption, to effectively remove CO2. It also highlights the need for further research to identify the best method and emphasizes the importance of carbon capture in biogas technology.

Triglyceride Conversion of Waste Frying Oil up to 98.46% Using Low Concentration K+/CaO Catalysts Derived from Eggshells

Mosharof Hossain et al.

Summary: In this study, biodiesel was successfully synthesized from multi-stage frying waste soybean oil using chicken eggshell-derived heterogeneous catalysts. By optimizing reaction parameters, a high yield of biodiesel was obtained. The results showed that waste eggshell-derived heterogeneous catalysts have significant catalytic activity under low K+ doping and catalyst loading conditions.

Biomass CO2 gasification with CaO looping for syngas production in a fixed-bed reactor

Ningbo Gao et al.

Summary: The study found that a 2:1 ratio of N-2 to CO2 at 700 degrees Celsius resulted in a 25% reduction in CO2. The catalytic properties of CaO increased the concentration of H-2 in the produced syngas by up to 10%. However, a temperature of 800 degrees Celsius was too high for the carbonation reaction of CaO.
