Catalytic ozonation mechanisms of Norfloxacin using Cu-CuFe2O4

Lanhe Zhang et al.

Summary: CuFe2O4 is a promising catalyst for the catalytic ozonation of antibiotics in wastewater due to its easily recoverable, environmentally friendly and cost-effective properties. However, its catalytic activity is limited by its lack of active sites and low electron transfer efficiency. In this study, CTAB and Cu-0 were doped with CuFe2O4 to introduce more O-V, which provided more active sites and improved electron transfer efficiency. Experimental results showed that the catalyst made of CTAB doped with Cu-CuFe2O4 achieved an optimum removal efficiency of 81.58% for Norfloxacin, with a first-order reaction kinetics constant of 0.03967 min(-1).

Remediation of sulfathiazole contaminated soil by peroxymonosulfate: Performance, mechanism and phytotoxicity

Yamin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the use of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the remediation of sulfathiazole (STZ)-contaminated soil. The results showed that 4 mM PMS could degrade 96.54% of STZ in the soil within 60 min. Singlet oxygen was identified as the main reactive oxygen species responsible for STZ removal. Certain ions and compounds enhanced the degradation efficiency of STZ, while others hindered its elimination. The oxidation process had minimal impact on soil structure and composition, and the germination rate and growth of wheat and radish increased. Based on the findings, using PMS alone for STZ-contaminated soil remediation is a feasible, safe, and environmentally friendly technology.

A Review of Sulfate Radical-Based and Singlet Oxygen-Based Advanced Oxidation Technologies: Recent Advances and Prospects

Zhendong Li et al.

Summary: In recent years, the advanced oxidation process (AOPs) based on sulfate radical (SO4?-) and singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) has gained attention due to its rapid reaction, efficient treatment, safety and stability, and easy operation. This paper systematically introduces the activation methods and mechanisms dominated by SO4?- and O-1(2) in these oxidation processes, based on the characteristics of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and persulfate (PS). The research progress of PMS and PS activation for the degradation of organic pollutants is reviewed, and future research directions are pointed out.

Degradation of 17β-estradiol by UV/persulfate in different water samples

Yunjie Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential use of the UV/persulfate system for degrading 17 beta-estradiol (E2) and found that factors such as pH, Br-, Cl-, and HCO3- ions in water can affect the degradation rate. The degradation process mainly involves hydroxylation, deoxygenation, and hydrogenation, with no formation of halogenated disinfection by-products. UV/persulfate was shown to be a safe and reliable method for E2 degradation.

Two facile synthesis routes for magnetic recoverable MnFe2O4/g-C3N4 nanocomposites to enhance visible light photo-Fenton activity for methylene blue degradation

Athaphon Angkaew et al.

Summary: In this study, high-efficiency photocatalyst MnFe2O4/g-C3N4 nanocomposites were synthesized for degrading methylene blue under simulated sunlight. The inclusion of g-C3N4 in the composites improved the crystallinity of MnFe2O4 and increased material magnetism, facilitating efficient recovery. The MG2 synthesis strategy effectively suppressed particle aggregation and increased the active surface area compared to MG1, enhancing the catalytic performance for organic contaminant degradation.
