Non-shoulder Injuries in Swimming: A Systematic Review

Lee Hill et al.

Summary: The shoulder is the most common injury in swimming, followed by the knee and spine. The repetitive nature of swimming training may predispose a swimmer to injury. Several risk factors have been previously identified, but the level of evidence and certainty that these risk factors predispose a swimmer to injury risk has yet to be critically evaluated in a systematic review.

Prevalence and mechanisms of injuries in water polo: a systematic review

Felix Croteau et al.

Summary: The literature review on injuries in water polo found that the most common sites of injury are the head, fingers, and shoulders. Shoulder injuries from training seem to be associated with lack of strength or flexibility and high volumes of overhead throwing. Further research is needed to investigate risk factors for other body areas.

Injuries in underwater rugby: a retrospective cross-sectional epidemiological study

Heinz-Lothar Meyer et al.

Summary: This study was the first epidemiological investigation of underwater rugby injuries, revealing a higher frequency of injuries among surveyed players but lower risk of severe injuries. Female athletes had more injuries and longer total injury break time compared to male athletes, suggesting further research should be conducted to prevent injuries in underwater rugby.
