Routes to roots: direct evidence of water transport by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi to host plants

Anne Kakouridis et al.

Summary: This study provides direct evidence that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can act as extensions of the root system in the movement of water along the soil-plant-air continuum. AMF transport water across an air gap and are also capable of transporting water via an extracytoplasmic pathway.

Biomass Partitioning and Morphoanatomical Traits of Six Gymnocalycium (Cactaceae) Species Occurring along a Precipitation Gradient

Solana B. Perotti et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the differences in biomass partitioning and morphoanatomical characteristics among six Gymnocalycium species occurring in different precipitation gradients. The results showed that these species differed in most variables, but these variations were not clearly associated with aridity, but were related to the subgenus of the species.

Mycorrhizal Symbiosis for Better Adaptation of Trees to Abiotic Stress Caused by Climate Change in Temperate and Boreal Forests

Muhammad Usman et al.

Summary: Global climate changes have serious consequences on natural ecosystems and plant growth, with mycorrhizal associations playing a crucial role in aiding trees to adapt to stressors. Studies show that mycorrhizal symbioses improve water and mineral nutrient uptake in roots, enhancing plant resilience to climate change-induced stressors.
