Oxidative Stress in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: Pathway and Mechanism-Based Treatment

Qingxia Lin et al.

Summary: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a common and serious complication of diabetes mellitus. Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the development of DPN, leading to oxidative damage. This review focuses on the interaction between oxidative stress and other physiological pathways, such as glycolytic pathway, polyol pathway, advanced glycosylation end products, protein kinase C pathway, inflammation, and non-coding RNAs, and discusses potential therapeutic strategies targeting oxidative stress for DPN. Antioxidant supplements, exercise, and novel drug delivery systems are proposed as effective treatment options for DPN through ROS-mediated mechanisms.

Chemical Constituents and Antidiabetic Activity of Dichloromethane Extract from Ficus carica Leaves

Limei Lin et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycemic effect of Ficus carica leaves extract in diabetic mice and identify its bioactive components. The results showed that the extract lowered blood glucose levels, improved blood lipids, and promoted the recovery of pancreatic beta cells. Additionally, two isolated compounds demonstrated substantial glucose-lowering activity in HepG2 cells.

Differential effect of herbal tea extracts on free fatty acids-, ethanol- and acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in FL83B hepatocytes

Guan-Wen Chen et al.

Summary: Herbal tea consumption has become popular due to its potential health benefits and attractive flavors. However, there is concern about the contribution of herbal supplements to drug-drug and drug-herb interactions, as well as hepatotoxicity. This study found that herbal tea extracts have differential effects on different modes of hepatotoxicity.

Effects of α-Lipoic Acid on Phagocytosis of Oligomeric Beta-Amyloid1-42 in BV-2 Mouse Microglial Cells

Chih-Yuan Ko et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that ALA enhances the phagocytosis of oA beta(1-42) in BV-2 cells by upregulating the COX-2/15-deoxy-(& UDelta;12,14)-prostaglandin J2/PPAR-gamma/CD36 pathway. Future studies should validate these findings with in vivo studies.
