Growth and production of wheat cultivars under water tensions in Cerrado soil

Summary: Brazil is not self-sufficient in wheat production and expanding cultivation in the Cerrado with irrigation systems can help increase production. This study evaluated the effects of soil water tension on wheat growth and production in the Cerrado. Results showed that wheat had better growth and production at a soil water tension of 5 kPa.

Use of Thermography to Evaluate Alternative Crops for Off-Season in the Cerrado Region

Summary: Future predictions due to climate change point towards decreased rainfall and longer drought periods. Finding new tolerant crops is an important strategy. This study evaluates the effect of water stress on the physiology and productivity of potential off-season crops in the Cerrado region, using thermography to measure canopy temperature. The results show that water stress affects crop performance, with common bean being the most sensitive and quinoa having the lowest canopy temperatures.
