Sensorimotor integration and motor learning during a novel visuomotor tracing task in young adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Heather S. McCracken et al.

Summary: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects motor performance and coordination, potentially impacting the learning of motor skills. This study compares ADHD patients to neurotypical controls in their neural processing and sensorimotor integration while learning a new visuomotor task. The results indicate improvements in performance accuracy and variability for both groups, but with differential changes in neural processing measures for the ADHD group, suggesting differences in response to the visuomotor task.

Source Localization of Audiovisual Multisensory Neural Generators in Young Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Heather S. McCracken et al.

Summary: This study investigates the differences in neural activity between adults with ADHD and neurotypical controls during audiovisual multisensory processing. The findings suggest that individuals with ADHD exhibit reduced neural activity in the postcentral gyrus of the right-hemispheric parietal lobe, which may correspond to impaired attentional capabilities when presented with multiple sensory inputs.

Differential changes in somatosensory evoked potentials and motor performance: pursuit movement task versus force matching tracking task

Ushani Ambalavanar et al.

Summary: Force modulation relies on accurate proprioception, and force-matching tasks alter corticocerebellar connectivity. This study compared the changes in neural responses and motor performance following force-matching tracking task and motor tracing task.

Cervical Proprioception Impairment in Neck Pain-Pathophysiology, Clinical Evaluation, and Management: A Narrative Review

Baogan Peng et al.

Summary: Neck pain is often associated with impairment of cervical proprioception, leading to disturbances in cervical sensorimotor control. The delicate proprioceptive system in the cervical spine plays a crucial role in posture and balance, with chronic neck pain being influenced by various mechanisms.

Paravertebral Muscle Mechanical Properties and Spinal Range of Motion in Patients with Acute Neck or Low Back Pain: A Case-Control Study

Sandra Alcaraz-Clariana et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify potential differences in muscle mechanical properties and spinal range of motion between patients with acute low back pain or acute neck pain and healthy controls. The results showed that cervical tone was higher in patients with acute neck pain than in controls, while cervical flexion was reduced in both spinal pain groups. Lumbar flexion differentiated patients with acute low back pain and controls, whereas cervical flexion differentiated patients with acute neck pain and controls. The study supports a tendency of the affectation of other spinal regions when only one is affected.

Effect of Neck Muscle Fatigue on Hand Muscle Motor Performance and Early Somatosensory Evoked Potentials

Mahboobeh Zabihhosseinian et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of cervical extensor muscle fatigue on upper limb motor acquisition and retention, as well as sensorimotor integration measured via somatosensory evoked potentials. The results showed that CEM fatigue impaired upper limb motor learning outcomes along with differential changes in SEP peak amplitudes related to SMI.

Muscle Tone Physiology and Abnormalities

Jacky Ganguly et al.

Summary: Tone, defined as resistance to passive stretch, is the result of complex neural circuits involving the brain, spinal cord, and muscle spindle. Disorders in these pathways can lead to issues like hypertonia, hypotonia, spasticity, rigidity, dystonia, and paratonia. Dysfunction in supraspinal control mechanisms may result in hypertonia, while network dysfunction can lead to other abnormalities in muscle tone.
