Myrtus communis and its bioactive phytoconstituent, linalool, interferes with Quorum sensing regulated virulence functions and biofilm of uropathogenic bacteria: In vitro and in silico insights

Abdullah A. Alyousef et al.

Summary: The increasing spread of drug resistance among bacterial pathogens has made current antibiotic therapy ineffective, particularly in cases of drug-resistant urinary tract infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. Phytochemicals obtained from ethnomedicinal plants have shown potential as anti-quorum sensing agents against pathogenic bacteria, including uropathogens. Myrtus communis and its bioactive compound linalool demonstrate inhibitory effects on quorum sensing and biofilm formation in uropathogenic bacteria, suggesting their potential as effective therapeutic agents.

Antibiofilm activity of silver nanoparticles against biofilm forming Staphylococcus pseudintermedius isolated from dogs with otitis externa

Mimi Seo et al.

Summary: Silver nanoparticles showed significant dose-dependent antibiofilm activity against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, reducing biofilm formation at concentrations of 20 and 10 μg/ml. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed that biofilms treated with AgNPs had fewer cells scattered along the surface compared to untreated surfaces.
