Resilin-mimetics as a smart biomaterial platform for biomedical applications

Summary: Intrinsically disordered proteins, such as the native elastic insect protein Resilin, have brought about a significant shift in the structure-function paradigm of proteins. Advances in computational techniques, polypeptide synthesis methods, and modular protein engineering have led to the development of novel resilin-like polypeptides with applications in various fields. The encoding of responsive behavior in amino acid sequence level remains a mystery, but the potential for future research lies in the design and development of new modular RLP-based biomaterials with programmable structure, properties, and functions. Resilin-mimetics have emerged as a biomaterial with versatile potential applications, and further exploration and mimicry of natural materials are ongoing.

Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using the Flower Extract of Abelmoschus esculentus for Cytotoxicity and Antimicrobial Studies

Summary: Rapid advances in nanotechnology have led to the emergence of green synthesized noble metal nanoparticles, such as silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), which are used in diverse fields like human health, environment, and industry. The unique physicochemical and antimicrobial properties of AgNPs make them applicable in various fields, including the pharmaceutical industry. Studies on biosynthesis of AgNPs and their antimicrobial activities towards microorganisms, specifically in medicine and agriculture, are discussed in this review paper. The confirmed antiviral properties of AgNPs make them potentially useful for SARS-CoV-2 treatment, based on in vivo studies assimilating the virus's activities with those of similar viruses. This review also provides insights into the cytotoxicity and safety issues of AgNPs, along with discussing their future prospects.

This review summarizes the new findings in the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using different plant extracts and discusses the potential influence of phytochemicals, extraction conditions, and reaction parameters on the properties and antimicrobial activities of the produced AgNPs. Additionally, the mechanism of interaction between AgNPs and microbial cell walls leading to cell death, as well as the enhanced antimicrobial activities achieved through synergistic interaction with commercial antibiotics, are comprehensively detailed.
