Rifamycin resistance, rpoB gene mutation and clinical outcomes of Staphylococcus species isolates from prosthetic joint infections in Republic of Korea

Yunjung Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the activity of rifamycins against planktonic and biofilm states of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates, characterized their rpoB gene mutations, and analyzed the clinical outcomes of rifampicin-resistant isolates. The results showed that rifamycins other than rifampicin exhibited promising antistaphylococcal activity, including antibiofilm activity.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular characterization of 77 MRSA isolates recovered from hospitalized patients with bloodstream infections in southern China. The results showed high genetic diversity among the isolates and identified different predominant clones and virulence genes in different patient groups.

Molecular Characterization of Staphylococcus aureus Obtained from Blood Cultures of Paediatric Patients Treated in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Mexico

Guillermo Jose Vazquez-Rosas et al.

Summary: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) plays a significant role in hospital-acquired infections, and there is limited information about the characteristics of its clinical isolates in Mexico. The study characterized S. aureus strains from blood cultures of pediatric patients, revealing that MRSA isolates demonstrated higher resistance and fewer virulence factors compared to MSSA isolates.

Resistance Profiles and Biological Characteristics of Rifampicin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Small-Colony Variants

Xiangkuo Zheng et al.

Summary: The study revealed that S. aureus SCVs share rifampicin resistance mechanisms with parental strains but exhibit significant differences in biological characteristics, showing reduced susceptibility to other antibiotics and altered growth ability, biofilm formation, and virulence profiles. Additionally, SCVs incur a fitness cost during phenotype switch.
