Co-sensitization between legumes is frequently seen, but variable and not always clinically relevant

Mark Smits et al.

Summary: This study investigated the frequency of co-sensitization and co-allergy between various legumes in legume-allergic patients. The results showed a high level of co-sensitization between different legumes, but it is generally not clinically relevant. Co-allergy to other legumes was not commonly seen in peanut and soybean allergic patients. The 7S and 11S globulins were likely responsible for the observed co-sensitization.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of dapagliflozin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Spain: results of the DECLARE-TIMI 58 study

Carlos Escobar et al.

Summary: The cost-effectiveness analysis of dapagliflozin as an add-on therapy for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Spain, based on the results of the DECLARE-TIMI 58 trial, shows that dapagliflozin is a cost-effective option with greater effectiveness and lower costs compared to placebo. Sensitivity analysis confirms the robustness of the results. Therefore, dapagliflozin is a cost-effective therapeutic option for adult patients with type 2 diabetes in Spain.

Legume Proteins and Peptides as Compounds in Nutraceuticals: A Structural Basis for Dietary Health Effects

Marina Carbonaro et al.

Summary: The quality of legume crops has significant economic and health impact. Legume proteins and peptides have been found to possess anticarcinogenic, hypocholesterolemic, glucose-lowering, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and immunostimulant properties. Understanding the relationship between the structure and bioavailability of legume proteins and peptides is crucial for the development of their nutraceutical potential.

Bioactive Properties of Bread Formulated with Plant-based Functional Ingredients Before Consumption and Possible Links with Health Outcomes After Consumption- A Review

Isaac Amoah et al.

Summary: Bread, as a commonly consumed staple, can be enhanced with plant-based functional ingredients to increase its health-promoting effects, such as increased antioxidant activity, lower blood pressure, and improved blood sugar control. However, most of these health effects are short-lived, and further long-term studies are needed for validation.

Role of plant-based diets in promoting health and longevity

Catrin Herpich et al.

Summary: Western-style obesity-promoting diets are associated with increased inflammation, higher disease incidence and mortality. On the other hand, plant-based diets are generally associated with better health and lower mortality. Adhering to a plant-based diet can improve metabolic and inflammatory profile, and reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease. Although there is ample evidence from animal studies, large-scale human studies are lacking to demonstrate the effects of a plant-based diet on longevity.

Consumption of fruits, vegetables, and legumes are associated with overweight/obesity in the middle- and old-aged Chongqing residents: A case-control study

E. Wu et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between dietary habits and the risk of overweight/obesity among middle-aged and elderly residents in Chongqing, China. The results showed that low intake of fruits and legumes, as well as a low percentage of vegetable intake, were associated with a higher risk of overweight/obesity. Additionally, there were joint effects of smoking or drinking behaviors and dietary habits on overweight/obesity risk.

Safety and Efficacy of a Beverage Containing Lupine Protein Hydrolysates on the Immune, Oxidative and Lipid Status in Healthy Subjects: An Intervention Study (the Lupine-1 Trial)

Ivan Cruz-Chamorro et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a beverage containing Lupinus angustifolius protein hydrolysates (LPHs) on the immune, oxidative, and metabolic status of healthy subjects. The results showed that LPHb ingestion was safe and effective in enhancing the anti-/pro-inflammatory response of PBMCs and improving cellular antioxidant capacity. Additionally, LPHb was found to reduce the LDL-C/HDL-C atherogenic index and serum total cholesterol levels, especially in the male cohort.
