Neuroprotective effects of ergosterol against TNF-?-induced HT-22 hippocampal cell injury

Chanin Sillapachaiyaporn et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the neuroprotective effects of Auricularia polytricha and its major component, ergosterol, against neuroinflammation. Ergosterol attenuates TNF-alpha-induced cell toxicity by activating the antioxidant pathway and facilitating the scavenging of reactive oxygen species. It also inhibits the transcriptional expressions of the NMDA gene through overexpression of the EGR-1 transcription factor.

Anti-inflammatory ergosterol derivatives from the endophytic fungus Fusarium chlamydosporum

Mohammed Wanees Al-Rabia et al.

Summary: Two new ergosterol derivatives and three known ergosterols were isolated from the endophytic fungus Fusarium chlamydosporum isolated from Anvillea garcinii leaves in Saudi Arabia. Their structural assignment was confirmed through various spectroscopic analyses and comparison with published data. The 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory potential of the isolated metabolites was evaluated, with compounds 1 and 3 showing moderate inhibitory potential.
