Hypertension and Ventricular-Arterial Uncoupling in Collegiate American Football Athletes

Jason Tso et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the relationship between American football and hypertension, and found that collegiate-level American football athletes have ventricular-arterial uncoupling, which is associated with adverse outcomes. Additionally, the study showed that uncoupling is related to an increased prevalence of hypertension and subclinical impairments in left ventricular systolic function in these athletes.

Contemporary Trends and Risk Factors of Hemodynamic and Myocardial Mechanics Derived by the Pressure Recording Analytical Method After Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Xiaobin Lou et al.

Summary: This study investigated hemodynamic and myocardial performance in children with congenital heart disease after cardiopulmonary bypass using PRAM monitoring. Results showed gradual improvements in cardiac cycle efficiency and dP/dT(max) over 48 hours, with decreases in systemic vascular resistance index, diastolic blood pressure, and inotrope dosages. Deep hypothermic circulatory arrest and higher epinephrine doses were associated with adverse impacts on performance, with CCE being the most sensitive indicator.

Association of Myocardial Energetic Efficiency with Circumferential and Longitudinal Left Ventricular Myocardial Function in Subjects with Increased Body Mass Index (the FATCOR Study)

Summary: In subjects with increased BMI but without known cardiovascular disease, lower myocardial mechanic-energetic efficiency (MEEi) was associated with decreased left ventricular myocardial function in both circumferential and longitudinal directions, independent of cardiometabolic factors.

Summary: This article summarizes the physiology of baroreceptor pathways and their effects on cardiovascular function, pain perception, consciousness, and cognition. Understanding these effects can help in identifying and implementing novel treatment modalities for common clinical conditions such as chronic pain, disorders of consciousness, and cognitive impairment.
