An efficient and high-capacity porous functionalized-membranes for uranium recovery from wastewater

Yun Xue et al.

Summary: In this study, novel amidoxime-functionalized membranes were synthesized through a facile one-step non solvent induced phase separation method. The membranes exhibited large specific surface areas and abundant binding sites, enabling efficient removal of uranium from wastewater. Thermodynamic studies revealed that the enrichment of uranium was a spontaneous and endothermic process. The membranes also showed a high removal percentage of uranium in the presence of multiple coexisting metal ions. Scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results confirmed the presence of abundant adsorption sites responsible for the efficient immobilization of uranium. This study presents a new strategy for the mass production of high-efficiency adsorbents for uranium-containing wastewater treatment in the future.
