Magnetic Fe3O4@C nanoparticles separated from cold rolling mill sludge for 4-nitrophenol reduction

Wangzhe Xia et al.

Summary: Magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles recycled from rolling oil sludge (ROS) were used as catalysts for 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction. Compared with commercial nano-Fe3O4, the recycled Fe3O4 exhibited excellent 4-NP reduction performance with easy magnetic separation, complete conversion within 270 s, and stable activity after multiple cycles. The unique structure of Fe3O4@C on the surface of recycled Fe3O4 and the accelerated electron transfer on the carbon shell contributed to its superior activity. This study provides a new approach for utilizing ROS waste and synthesizing efficient 4-NP reduction catalysts.

Summary: The synthesis of optoelectrically enhanced nano-materials should be continuously improved. The porous zinc oxide (ZnO) and copper-doped ZnO nanocomposites (NCs) were successfully synthesized by the time-and energy-efficient solution combustion synthesis (SCS) approach. The doping and heterojunction strategy improved the optoelectric properties of the NCs more than the individual constituents, enhancing the charge transfer and optical absorption capabilities. The SCS approach offers a less expensive and more efficient method for various applications, such as catalysis and sensors.

Junjie Li et al.

Summary: In this study, Cu-based bimetal polycrystal@carbon (C-HK(Cu/M)) composites were successfully fabricated by partial reduction strategy and applied for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The addition of Ni to HKUST-1 significantly improved the catalytic properties of the composite, leading to the generation of highly dispersed polycrystal NiO/Cu/CuO nanohybrids. The porous support accelerated the diffusion and adsorption of the substrate, and the surrounding polycrystal nanohybrids on conductive carbon produced hydrogen reducing species for the efficient reduction of 4-NP. The C-HK(Cu/Ni) exhibited ultrafast kinetics and turnover frequency (TOF), surpassing the current state-of-the-art noble metal catalysts.
