Magnesium Hydroxide Slurry Coagulation-Adsorption Performance for Reactive Orange Removal Assisted with PAM

Xiaoli Deng et al.

Summary: Magnesium hydroxide has been successfully used for alkaline reactive dye wastewater treatment, but for a wider range of pH values, magnesium hydroxide slurry has the advantage of buffer action. In this study, magnesium hydroxide slurry and non-ionic polyacrylamide (PAM) were used to remove reactive orange dye in aqueous solution. The results show that magnesium hydroxide slurry performs well for reactive orange removal and floc sedimentation in the pH range of 5-12.

Elimination of the adverse effects of humic substances on molybdenite flotation: Pre-removal of humic substances using polyferric sulfate coagulation

Jialei Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the adverse effects of humic substances on molybdenite flotation and propose a feasible method to eliminate these effects. The results showed that humic substances in process water can reduce the flotation recovery of molybdenite by adsorbing onto its surface. Pre-removal of humic substances using polyferric sulfate (PFS) coagulation was found to effectively eliminate their adverse effects and improve the flotation recovery of molybdenite. The study highlights the importance of achieving a high removal rate of humic substances in order to enhance the flotation recovery of molybdenite.

The molecular differences of young and mature landfill leachates: Molecular composition, chemical property, and structural characteristic

Jie Liu et al.

Summary: Landfill leachate can be categorized into young and mature leachate based on the landfill age, with significant differences in the organic composition and structural characteristics. Young leachate is mainly composed of CHO and aliphatic compounds, while mature leachate is rich in CHON compounds, highly unsaturated oxygen compounds, and phenolic compounds. The complex structural properties of mature leachate organics may result from the transformation of young leachate organics through a series of reactions.

Enhanced landfill leachate treatment in sequencing batch biofilm reactors (SBBRs) amended with zeolite and biochar

Bisheng Gao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the addition of natural adsorbent materials, zeolite and biochar, to enhance biological treatment of landfill leachate in SBBRs. Results showed excellent TAN removal and significantly higher COD and color removal with biochar addition. The nitrogen removal pathway shifted from simultaneous nitrification/denitrification to partial nitritation/anammox over time in the zeolite/biochar amended SBBRs, indicating a promising approach for enhanced landfill leachate treatment.

Enhanced removal of Eriochrome Black T from water using biochar/layered double hydroxide/chitosan hybrid composite: Performance evaluation and optimization using BBD-RSM approach

Mukarram Zubair et al.

Summary: A novel hybrid composite consisting of biochar, layered double hydroxide, and chitosan was successfully synthesized and used for adsorptive removal of Eriochrome black T from water. The composite exhibited a heterogeneous structure with abundant surface functionalities, which facilitated faster and enhanced removal of the dye. The kinetic and equilibrium adsorption data showed good fitting to the pseudo-second order model and Langmuir and Redlich Peterson isotherm models, respectively. The spectroscopic analysis and experimental results suggested that the adsorption process was mainly governed by electrostatic, chemical, and anion-exchange interactions. This study highlights the importance of coupling composite materials with bio-fillers for efficient purification of dye-contaminated water streams.

Chunguang Hou et al.

Summary: In this study, a Teflon/PVDF composite membrane was successfully prepared by modifying a commercial PVDF membrane with Teflon emulsion to enhance its resistance to wetting, scaling, and fouling. The composite membrane showed excellent performance in treating LFL and exhibited stable properties during the concentration of NF brine. The dip-coating method used in this study is simple, cost-effective, easy to scale up, and has great potential for large-scale production of hydrophobic porous membranes.

Leaching behavior and environmental risk assessment of toxic metals in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash exposed to mature landfill leachate environment

Weihua Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the stability of incinerated fly ash disposed in landfill sites can be affected by the organic landfill leachate environment. Solidified fly ash has the potential to reduce the environmental risk level of leached manganese ions, but the immobilization capability of the pretreatment on various types of manganese ions should be evaluated based on practical disposal conditions. The Acetic Acid Buffer Solution Method can provide a reliable reference level of environmental risk for incinerated fly ash disposed in municipal solid waste landfill sites.
