Optimal placement and sizing of charging infrastructure for EVs under information-sharing

Christian Anker Vandet et al.

Summary: In the next decade, the development of an optimal charging infrastructure is crucial due to the increasing number of electric vehicles. This paper proposes using trip diaries and information sharing systems to develop a demand simulator for electric vehicle movements and optimize the locations of charging stations. The study conducted in Copenhagen shows that information sharing leads to better utilization of charging capacity, even with only 50% of the population sharing information. This paper highlights the importance of information sharing in the planning of future charging systems.

Charging, steady-state SoC and energy storage distributions for EV fleets

F. Hipolito et al.

Summary: The increasing interest in electric vehicle (EV) charging situation has led to the development of models that approximate the distribution of State-of-Charge (SoC) levels for EVs. These models help understand charging needs and provide crucial information for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications. The study suggests that a full electrification of the vehicle fleet could stress the power grid but also offers potential for deploying V2G as a mechanism to dampen high-demand effects.

C. Birk Jones et al.

Summary: Electric Vehicles present a unique challenge to electric power system operations, and Time-of-Use pricing can effectively reduce peak system loads. This paper simulates the impact of EV charging's response to TOU pricing and finds that if charging start times are randomized within the off-peak period, it can decrease the peak load by 5% compared to simulations without TOU rates.

Summary: This study analyzes the geographical distribution impact of electric vehicle charging on power system violations in residential areas. The results show that the risk of violations is highest in cities, lower in urban areas, and significantly fewer in rural areas. The study also finds that an electricity price optimized charging strategy increases the risk of violations in certain city areas. Additionally, there are variations in violations in different price areas in Sweden.
