High temperature electrolysis using Molten Carbonate Electrolyzer

Linda Barelli et al.

Summary: This study presents a system for hydrogen production based on a Molten Carbonate Electrolyzer, which can generate pure oxygen and hydrogen from water and recover additional gas streams internally. Energy equilibrium and gas mix compositions were analyzed, with current density found to have the highest impact on system equilibrium. Sensitivity studies on current density, utilization factors of steam and CO2 were also conducted, showing the importance of energy balance in the process.

A comprehensive study of Power-to-Gas technology: Technical implementations overview, economic assessments, methanation plant as auxiliary operation of lignite-fired power station

Pavel Straka

Summary: The study focuses on evaluating technical implementations, CO2 sources usability, and the mass deployment potential of Power-to-Gas technology, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a low price of surplus electricity. An approach to eliminate regulated electricity distribution fees by associating a methanation plant with the main CO2-producing plant is proposed. Additionally, the study evaluates the use of P-t-G as an auxiliary operation of a lignite-fired power plant, showing a potentially good return on investment.
