Recovery and regeneration of anode graphite from spent lithium-ion batteries through deep eutectic solvent treatment: Structural characteristics, electrochemical performance and regeneration mechanism

Yiming Lai et al.

Summary: The recovery of graphite from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) using a novel deep eutectic solvent (DES) leaching method is proposed. The DES leaching effectively removes impurities from spent graphite and restores its crystal structure and morphology. The regenerated graphite exhibits excellent electrochemical performance, comparable to commercial graphite. This study provides a facile and green method for the closed-loop utilization of spent graphite in LIBs.

Effect of High-Rate Cycle Aging and Over-Discharge on NCM811 (LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2) Batteries

Tao Yin et al.

Summary: Inconsistent monomer batteries in a battery pack can lead to over-discharge and pose safety risks. High-rate aging and over-discharge result in decreased battery capacity, increased temperature, and micro short-circuit. Furthermore, these conditions cause degradation of the separator, damage to positive and negative materials, and uneven deposition, which increase the risk of thermal runaway and short-circuit in the battery.

Stress evolution and thickness change of a lithium-ion pouch cell under various cycling conditions

Congrui Jin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of a single pouch cell during charge/discharge cycles by measuring stress and thickness changes. The results show that increasing the charge/discharge current generally decreases the stress increase percentage and increases the volume expansion percentage. Additionally, increasing the upper cutoff voltage generally increases the stress increase percentage and volume expansion percentage. These findings provide important insights for the design of battery packs.

Separator Aging and Performance Degradation Caused by Battery Expansion: Cyclic Compression Test Simulation of Polypropylene Separator

Zidan Yuan et al.

Summary: The study found that the polypropylene separator exhibits varying degrees of transparent wrinkles on the surface under different compression strains, with higher impedance and lower ionic conductivity as the strain increases. Discharge capacity decreases significantly at 12.5% and 15% strain, with the voltage platform of charge and discharge reducing noticeably at 15% strain. The damage to the lamellae skeleton around the transparent wrinkles in the separator increases with cycle times and compression strain, affecting electrochemical performance.

Unrevealing the effects of low temperature on cycling life of 21700-type cylindrical Li-ion batteries

Daozhong Hu et al.

Summary: The capacity degradation of batteries at low temperatures is mainly related to the lithium plating at graphite anodes, the formation of unsatisfied solid mixture on the anode, solvent precipitation in the electrolytes and blockage of separator pores, as well as the uneven dissolution of transition metal ions from the cathode.
