ZnO Nanoparticles Modified by Carbon Quantum Dots for the Photocatalytic Removal of Synthetic Pigment Pollutants

Jing -Jing Xu et al.

Summary: Synthetic pigment pollutants from the modern food industry pose a serious threat to human health and quality of life. To overcome the limitations of ZnO-based photocatalytic degradation, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were used to decorate ZnO nanoparticles, resulting in the construction of CQDs/ZnO composites. Compared to single ZnO particles, the composites exhibited enhanced light absorption, decreased photoluminescence intensity, and improved visible-light degradation of rhodamine B. This study provides an economical and clean strategy for designing visible-light-responsive ZnO-based photocatalysts for the removal of synthetic pigment pollutants in the food industry.

Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species and Degradation of Pollutants in the Fe2+/O2/Tripolyphosphate System: Regulated by the Concentration Ratio of Fe2+ and Tripolyphosphate

Chengwu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between the Fe2+/TPP ratio and the degradation mechanism of p-nitrophenol (PNP) in Fe2+/O-2 systems under neutral conditions was investigated. It was found that the Fe2+/TPP ratio regulated the degradation pathways of PNP, with different reactive oxygen species (ROS) involved at different ratios. By controlling the Fe2+/TPP ratio, the oxidation/reduction removal of pollutants can be selectively achieved.
