Commercial Methods for Antifungal Susceptibility Testing of Yeasts: Strengths and Limitations as Predictors of Resistance

Ana Espinel-Ingroff

Summary: Susceptibility testing results can vary depending on the method, agent, and species. To select the best treatment agent, minimal inhibitory concentrations or minimal effective concentrations should be considered. The use of breakpoints and epidemiological cutoff values can help determine the clinical relevance of the results. Commercial methods need further research and establishment of breakpoints for susceptibility testing.

A case-series of bloodstream infections caused by the Meyerozyma guilliermondii species complex at a reference center of oncology in Brazil

Alessandra Leal Silva Chaves et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical and microbiological aspects of six patients with bloodstream infections caused by the Meyerozyma guilliermondii species complex in Brazil, highlighting reduced antifungal susceptibility and variable production of virulence-related enzymes. Neutropenic patients with BSI caused by this emerging species complex had a poor prognosis.
