Development and evaluation of a blocking ELISA for serological diagnosis of equine infectious anemia

Zhe Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, a B-cell common epitope-based blocking ELISA (bELISA) was developed for the detection of antibodies to Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV). The bELISA assay showed high sensitivity and specificity and has the potential for monitoring the EIA epidemic worldwide.

Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV): Evidence of Circulation in Donkeys from the Brazilian Northeast Region

Viviane Maria Dias Costa et al.

Summary: Equine infectious anemia (EIA) is a serious disease listed by OIE, with no effective treatment or vaccine available. Control measures are based on segregation and euthanasia of positive equids. Research on EIA in donkeys is limited, but a study on EIAV in donkeys from a shelter in Brazil suggests they could be carriers of the virus.

Identification of large genetic variations in the equine infectious anemia virus tat-gag genomic region

Andreia Elisa Cursino et al.

Summary: This study conducted molecular detection and sequencing of EIAV proviral DNA from Brazilian horses, with ELISAs showing greater sensitivity for EIA diagnosis compared to AGID. The EIAV sequences from the Brazilian Pantanal grouped in a different clade, providing new information about genetic diversity.

Identification and genetic characterization of equine infectious anemia virus in Western Balkans

Diana Lupulovic et al.

Summary: This study is the first to report the circulation of EIAV at a low level in the horse population from the Northern part of Serbia. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the EIAV strain from the western Balkan region of Europe belongs to a new cluster, different from previously identified strains worldwide.
