Furthermore, a lack of agreement on terminology and methodological approaches has impeded researchers' ability to develop evidenced-based guidelines for female exercisers.

Further longitudinal and prospective studies are urgently needed to systematically monitor on-field performance parameters, in order to provide more effective training individualization recommendations for female elite athletes.
