Modified Wettability of Micro-structured Steel Surfaces Fabricated by Elliptical Vibration Diamond Cutting

Jianguo Zhang et al.

Summary: Hardened steel is an important material in modern industry, and modifying its wettability through micro/nano structuring is crucial for enhancing adhesion strength and resistance to corrosion and wear under extreme conditions. The feasibility of micro/nano sculpturing of hardened steels using elliptical vibration diamond cutting is presented in this study, with optimal structural parameters identified to increase the hydrophobicity of textured steel.

How to Achieve a Monostable Cassie State on a Micropillar-Arrayed Superhydrophobic Surface

Liyang Huang et al.

Summary: This study explores the wetting process of superhydrophobic surfaces and reveals that the stable wetting of a trapezoidal micropillar-arrayed surface depends significantly on the apparent contact angle of single micropillars, which can be categorized into three regions and is closely related to the geometry of microstructures. These findings are supported by experimental results and numerical simulations, providing valuable insights for the precise design of functional surfaces with different wettability.

Contact line-based model for the Cassie-Wenzel transition of a sessile droplet on the hydrophobic micropillar-structured surfaces

Bo Hou et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the forces and critical conditions on static sessile droplets deposited on hydrophobic micropillar-structured surfaces, proposing a new force-balance model which showed better agreement with experimental results compared to classical models. Integration of depinning mechanisms into the model allows for reliable estimations of critical conditions for the C-W transition during evaporation, providing appropriate geometric parameters for achieving high hydrophobic stability.
